A field campaign was conducted in Ny-Alesund (78 degrees 54'N, 11 degrees 53'E), Svalbard (Norway) during April and May 2005. An Atmospheric Mercury (Hg) Depletion Event (AMDE) was observed from the morning of April 24 until the evening of April 27. Transport of already Hg and ozone (O3) depleted air masses could explain this observed depletion. Due to a snowfall event during the AMDE, surface snow Hg concentrations increased two fold. Hg deposition took place over a short period of time corresponding to 3-4 days. More than 80% of the deposited Hg was estimated to be reemitted back to the atmosphere in the days following the event. During the campaign, we observed night and day variations in surface snow Hg concentrations, which may be the result of gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) oxidation to divalent Hg at the snow/air interface by daylight surface snow chemistry. Finally, a decrease in the reactive Hg (HgR) fraction of total Hg (HgT) in the surface snow was observed during spring. We postulate that the transformation of HgR to a more stable form may occur in Arctic snow during spring.  相似文献

The hydrogeological survey of Bavaria has recently been intensified in order to produce a countrywide hydrogeological map at the scale of 1:50,000 by 2015. The spatial data will be seamfree, reflect the 3D-character of hydrogeological maps and comprehensive search functions will be available for the whole dataset. A spatial database was designed which incorporates the complex relations of rock and groundwater bodies. The underlying relational data model integrates the following main object types: propagation of the upper aquifers and surface layers, rock bodies, structural surfaces together with point data and fault lines, groundwater bodies as well as groundwater surfaces together with point data and the distribution of different types of groundwater potential. The database was developed as an ArcGISextension using the Geodatabase as a relational database. The application of this system supports the mapping process and guarantees a consistent data structure. After integration into the Bavarian Soil Information System, the hydrogeological spatial data will be available for the users in a searchable format.  相似文献

Commercially available heat transfer fluids used in borehole heat exchangers were investigated for their composition, their biodegradability as well as their ecotoxicity. The main components of the fluids are organic compounds (often glycols) for freezing protection. Biodegradation of the fluids in laboratory studies caused high oxygen depletion as well as nitrate/iron(III) reduction under anaerobic conditions. Additives such as benzotriazoles for corrosion protection were persistent. Ecotoxicity data show that the commercially available fluids caused much higher ecotoxicity than their main organic constituents. Consequently, with regard to groundwater protection pure water as heat transfer medium is recommended. The second best choice is the usage of glycols without any additives. Effects on groundwater quality should be considered during ecological-economical cost-benefit-analyses of further geothermal energy strategies. The protection of groundwater as the most important drinking water resource must take priority over the energy gain from aquifers.  相似文献

The attractiveness of Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) cubic based garnets lies in their high ionic conductivity and the combination of thermal and electrochemical stability. However, relations between composition and conductivity as well as degradation effects are still not completely understood. In this contribution we demonstrate the applicability of microelectrodes (Ø = 20–300 μm) for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) studies on LLZO garnets. Microelectrodes allow to obtain local information on the ionic conductivity. A comparison between the overall performance of the sample (3.3 × 10?4 S cm?1) and local measurements revealed differences in conductivity with a maximum of the locally measured values of 6.3 × 10?4 S cm?1 and a minimum of 2.6 × 10?4 S cm?1. One reason behind these conductivity variations is most probably a compositional gradient in the sample. In addition, microelectrodes are very sensitive to conductivity changes near to the surface. This was used to investigate the effect of moisture in ambient air on the conductivity variations of LLZO. Substantial changes of the measured Li-ion transport resistance were found, particularly for smaller microelectrodes which probe sample volumes close to the surface.  相似文献

This article explores the changing modes and mechanisms of the transatlantic dialogue between urban planners from the perspective of US urbanists. During the early post-war period, this dialogue intensified quickly. US planners were involved in their country's broad efforts to provide assistance to and build strong political ties with Western European nations. Accordingly, they assumed the role of tutors vis-à-vis their European peers. Due to urban America's apparent flaws and the success of European planning projects, however, their interest in Europe broadened considerably during the 1950s. Initially, the initiative of individuals remained crucial for the flow of planning information from Europe to the USA, and European immigrants and émigrés helped facilitate transatlantic transfers. Looking at Europe, American planners sought to address the shortcomings of the domestic practice of planning as they perceived them. Europe served as an argumentative tool for US experts who were eager to change the socio-political framework that limited their impact on urban development in their home country. Information about European planning was transmitted through a diverse set of channels and the biographies of many of the experts involved with transatlantic exchange remind us of the complex international planning networks that existed throughout the twentieth century. American planners' interest in Europe remained biased towards specific regions and topics. Nevertheless, US planners negotiated the way in which they brought their limited influence to bear on American urban environments in a transnational context. The framework that supported their integration into international planning discussions became increasingly institutionalized towards the end of the research period.  相似文献

Coal mining is one of the most important causes of environmental pollution, as large quantities of coal dust particles are emitted. Colombia-South America has large natural coal reserves and “El Cerrejón” is the world's largest open-cast mine located in the northern department of Guajira. The aim of the present study was to evaluate genotoxic effects in a population exposed to coal residues from the open-cast mine “El Cerrejón”. 100 exposed workers and 100 non-exposed control individuals were included in this study. The exposed group was divided according to different mining area activities: (i). Transport of extracted coal, (ii). Equipment field maintenance, (iii). Coal stripping and, (iv). Coal embarking. Blood samples were taken to investigate biomarkers of genotoxicity, specifically, primary DNA damage as damage index (DI), tail length and% of tail DNA using the Comet assay (alkaline version) and chromosome damage as micronucleus (MN) frequency in lymphocytes. Both biomarkers showed statistically significantly higher values in the exposed group compared to the non-exposed control group. No difference was observed between the exposed groups executing different mining activities. These results indicate that exposure to coal mining residues may result in an increased genotoxic exposure in coal mining workers. We did not find a correlation between age, alcohol consumption and service time with the biomarkers of genotoxicity. Our results are the first data of genotoxic effects induced by coal mining exposure in Colombia, and thus, contribute to the exploration of test batteries use for monitoring of exposed populations and may stimulate designing control, hygiene and prevention strategies for occupational health risk assessment in developing countries.  相似文献

Recycling of milled product particles in continuous fluidised bed spray granulation can lead to sustained oscillations in the particle size distribution. In this contribution, a model‐predictive feedback control scheme is presented that allows for stabilisation of unstable steady‐states. The feedback law is designed based on a population balance model, which describes the temporal evolution of the particle size distribution due to the particulate processes, and is compared with traditional design methods (PI, LQR).  相似文献

The covalent integration of inorganic nanoparticles in polymer matrices has gained significance for improving the structural properties of polymer-based materials. Here we report on the performance of poly(ω-pentadecalactone) networks with magnetite nanoparticles as netpoints in their magnetically-controlled shape-memory capability. Hybrid nanocomposites with magnetite nanoparticle content ranging from 5 to 11 wt% were prepared by reacting two types of oligo(ω-pentadecalactone) (OPDL) based precursors with terminal hydroxy groups, a three arm OPDL (3AOPDL, Mn = 6000 g mol−1) and an OPDL (Mn = 3300 g mol−1) coated magnetite nanoparticle ( = 10 nm), with a diisocyanate. Homogenous hybrid nanocomposites were obtained independent from the weight content of the OPDL decorated nanoparticles in the samples. At 100 °C (T > Tm-OPDL) the covalent integration of the nanoparticles increased the mechanical strength with increasing weight content whereby the elasticity remained almost constant. In magnetically-controlled one-way dual-shape experiments the shape fixity decreased from 95% to 90% but the shape recovery increased slightly from 95% to 97% when the nanoparticle content was increased. In magnetically-controlled reversible dual-shape experiments the nanoparticles had a restraining effect and the maximum shape-change of 65% for hybrid nanocomposites with 5 wt% magnetite nanoparticles was reduced to 36% when the particle content was increased to 11 wt%. These results show that the performance of hybrid nanocomposites can be tailored by nanoparticle content, however in terms of their applicability either mechanical strength or actuation capability should be focussed in the material selection.  相似文献

Aerodynamic levitation and CO2 laser melting have been used to synthesize the yttrium aluminosilicate glasses zY2O3yAl2O3xSiO2 with z/y = 3/5 corresponding to the YAG (Y3Al5O12) composition and x between ~5 and ~45 mol%. The low‐ and high‐density (LDA inclusion and HDA matrix) polyamorphic phases in glasses with less than ~14 mol% SiO2 were identified with backscattering electron imaging. Polarized and depolarized Raman spectra show the formation of various Qn SiO4 species whose relative populations change smoothly as the SiO2 content is altered. The AlOs (s = 4–6) and YOz (z = 6–9) polyhedra formed in the YAG glass are preserved upon silica additions while the terminal oxygens of the Q2AlO4 tetrahedra are gradually bridged to the Qn‐SiO4 species. The low‐frequency Boson Peak overlaps with the vibrational spectrum and its maximum is redshifted with increasing silica content. Micro‐Raman spectra measured for the LDA and HDA amorphous phases are found to be similar to the spectra of the bulk glass indicating common structural characteristics. The stability of the LDA phase against crystallization appears to be lower than that of the HDA phase. The crystallinity on certain inclusions consisted of YAG microcrystals and a new unidentified microcrystalline phase within Y4Al2(1?x)Si2xO(9+x) solid solution.  相似文献

Within this study, a time saving photo‐initiated miniemulsion polymerization process (duration of polymerization was 15 min) was established in order to encapsulate a paraffin wax with an acrylate polymer shell. The obtained freeze‐dried latex was an off‐white powder exhibiting spherical particles with mean diameters around 400 nm and a concentration of paraffin wax around 56%. Mixing the reaction product with a UV‐curable resin matrix resulted in thermotropic overheating protection glazings with high light‐shielding efficiency. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl.
